The Harebeat
I ate ants when child.. Later I became vegetarian..
Mama tried to put me in many kindergartens, but I never spent more than a month in one.. I was kicked out.. Mama says I was a bad kid.. Was I?..
I moved out from my parents’ and started to live alone at the age of 17.. Without having any special brains I somehow managed to graduate from university with red diplomas.. Up to now diplomas were of no use..
I can say that I have an interesting life.. I’ve worked on TV as a reporter, camera man, video editor, sound editor; worked as a call center operator; 3 months I’ve been selling petrol illegally; been a casting manager; worked as a language teacher, music teacher, teacher of religions; been making professional wedding videos; been a VJ, DJ and MC; served as an actor and musician in the theater; and once even worked as Santa’s helper..
In my life I slept on tables, under the tables, on chairs, in temples and churches, in police stations, in tents, on the roadside, under the tree, outdoor at -40 C wrapped in clothes, on the beach, in the tipi, under the rain and in the snow, in the classroom, with 20 other people in one small room, and once I even fell asleep in the toilet.. Once spent a night in police station in the Mountain province of the Philippines, while policemen were on red alert, patrolling the surroundings in search for Kalinga headhunters.. Another time I spent a night in a tent on the roof of a 30-story building in Moscow.. And once I was attacked by crabs while trying to sleep on Nai Yang beach in Phuket Thailand..
Three winters in-a-row I hitchhiked from Moscow to Siberia.. I’m a hitchhiker.. So far I’ve hitchhiked in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, China, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos.. One of the greatest experiences I had was a hitchhiking trip from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Karagandy, Kazakhstan..
Claim to be a Rainbow Warrior, though don’t like the word “warrior”.. I do believe in old Native American prophecy: “When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow”..
I used to work on TV for 7 years with no holidays until one day I was fed up with material life.. I left university, quit my job, got my backpack and hit the road.. I’m a hitchhiker.. I’m traveling here, there and everywhere, meeting new friends, visiting different cities and countries, taking photos and writing travel stories.. Now I live a simple life, have no job, no money and no planns.. This blog is about my travels, about my life on the road..

Hi!
Very interesting and inspiring. Thanks for sharing. Like other commentators, I would not be able to take the cold temperatures all the time!
I’m thinking of travel across Europe/Asia (southern Russia, probably) with my dog. I’d combine hiking and public transportation. Do you think that’s possible in terms of getting around with a dog? Do you have any experience or advice on this matter? Thanks!

Hello Jaime!
I don’t have any experience of traveling with animals, but I have plenty of friends who even hitchhike in Russia with their cats and dogs.. From their own words, it’s a bit harder to get ride, but very much possible..
Getting around with a dog is possible everywhere here.. Just as everywhere, in some places like shops, office buildings etc, animals are not allowed.. But no problem with public transportation!
Just make sure to have all the medical documents for the dog with you.
Cheers!

Your biography is impressive…so fascinating it could make a very interesting book! But most of all, I like your writing style which is so witty and enjoyable.

Thanks for the post on the Indiana Museum Blog about the Beard contest. Free beer would get most of the American Beard team to show up!
At our last event in Anchorage Alaska we ran out of beer and had to send into town and get more, ( there was a large German population at the contest) It was a good time. Cheers David Powell

Wow!
What fantastic stories you must have to tell… one of the more interesting travel blogs I’ve seen recently – I love you writing style too – definately a book or two in you… oh, and what are ants like to eat???

Thank You! Well, that’s why I’m writing here in this blog, to share the stories I have and maybe to inspire people to go traveling..
Ants? they are acid
It’s because of Formic acid that is found in ants.. Here:

I’m very much interested to know how you bear the travel expenses without having a job (and therefore no money). If it’s okay for you to say, of course.
Feb 12, 2011 @ 13:20:45
Well, as I mainly hitchhike and couchsurf when traveling, the only money I need is for food and visas.. It’s not that much, and when there’s a need for money, I work.. Any job.. Can be a dishwasher, language teacher, or anything else.. Also I’m a musician, so I always can do busking.. For example, while living in Chiang Mai, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Russian.. In China I did busking, here, you can read about it: http://harebeat.wordpress.com/2011/02/08/on-the-streets-of-dali/

Oh man! I know what you’re living may not be called a luxurious life. But I would love to live like that as I am a big fan of traveling (haven’t done many traveling in my 17 years of age, though
).
Good luck with all your travelings across the world.
